Unfortunately I have to agree! Both handling agents use their dispatchers primarily to escort passengers across the airside roads these days. Liaising with pilots/cabin crew/ground handling team/engineers - prime tasks for a dispatcher - goes out the window when you're stuck outside the departure gate for most of the turnround.
