Following on from Canberra tales, we used to 'pop' off to the far east to buy goodies. I do recall the Canberra pilot suddenly spotting Gan 40,000 feet below (no INAS, DME or GPS in those days). To get down quickly, the pilot (no names, no pack drill) opened the bomb bay doors to add to the drag, whereupon the pannier containing all the crew goodies deposited itself into the Indian Ocean. By the way Nutloose, Jaguar Boys is a great read. I finished it in 10 seconds, but there again, the Jaguar was always rather fast. Just did not turn.
