If it was me, and I am a snorer, I'd appreciate being gently woken up (hand on shoulder, gentle shake) if I was disturbing other passengers. In fact I am quite used to this, and apparently it is an effective technique. According to various seat mates I don't often snore when sleeping on a plane, but it has been known to happen.
Being poked by a pen? I would not appreciate that.
