Back in the last century when I was a Radio Officer at sea, I routinely flew into Heathrow and then for speed, rather than take the bus between terminals to catch the BA Shuttle to Manchester, used put my luggage on a trolley and head off, following the signs, through a maze of passageways.
On this particular occasion, my wife had accompanied me on my voyage, so showing off a bit, I piled our luggage on a trolley and set off at some speed to try and make out Shuttle flight to Manchester.
Some kind person held a passageway door open for us, he had just exited it, and seconds later we were the only two people standing before an immigration desk. I passed him our passports and was asked the question, "where have you come from"? "Antwerp" I replied. He shook his head. "There is no way you can be standing there if you have flown in from Antwerp"! I showed him our tickets, he shook his head again, handed us back our passports and left us to navigate a new route to the Shuttle lounge.
