Crikey.
All this from telling poor old SenneccaSoarer that he would have to be JOKING if he thought he could find any way of twin piston flying at the moment without hiring his own aircraft.
A young chap I assisted in a small way in gaining his BA sponsorship in the first place...
Hamrah closed the original thread not I. It was a good call as PPRuNe is tight on bandwidth at the moment. I should really close this one but I won't.
If you want an intelligent discussion on the role of moderator then I am up for that. Unlike most Mods I have always voiced personal opinion without using a secondary username. Which has its pros and cons. Often people get het up about it becuase they seem to think that a Moderator should be moderate. Or they think that my role should be akin to that of Chairman of a debate or the Speaker of the House. Which is a valid view.
There is also a secondary issue which is that as custodian of Wannabes one tries to generate debate. Occasionally I use different usernames to do this but not often.
The way I chose to handle the Wannabe crisis that way Sept 11th is a good point in case. It also seems to have generated this sentiment of holier than thou that a few people are articulating. I decided that if I were still a Wannabe then I would want this forum to summarise every piece of a bad news effecting me. So I posted every Wannabe 'threat' that appeared. I also voiced the opinion that I thought the Wannabe market would be very very poor for the next 2 years and advised people not the commit to expensive training.
This seemed to get up some peoples noses. Usually they were either pilots already, deep into and committed to training or very young.
But for John Wannabe I stand by my advice and I stand by my position. They know very little about the industry and are all too gullible when talking to FTO marketing departments who are still spinning the line that BA have hundreds of retirements and a massive upturn is just around the corner...
So they need a counterpoint. That counterpoint needs to be from a respectable source. I chose to be that counterpoint.
Which has got me flamed but - hey - who cares.
PPRuNe was really really
useful to me as a Wannabe. I strive to continue to keep it useful for those behind me on the road.
Providing Wannabe TLC is an important but secondary role of this forum. In my view.
Similarly most of my emails to Wannabes are blunt, curt and sometimes rude. Largely this is becuase my time is short. I include any useful info that I can. But I have short thrift for idiotic questions easily answered by a bit of searching. And i get a LOT of those !
I am open to criticism and comment. I don't think I am infallible. If I didn't have a full time job, a girlfriend and an entire life outside of PPRuNe plus got paid for all this I would be able to be a lot better Moderator. But I do so you sometimes get a knackered distracted annoyed moderator rather than Jesus Christ with a laptop. Sorry
LAVDUMPER. I am seriously annoyed with you. You said that it took ages for me to find a half decent job. You intoned that I flew a piece of crap aircraft for a company of unsound footing. I took great exception to this and I flamed you soundly. Which you deserved.
You are not a Wannabe. You are not a professional Pilot. You chose to give poor quality advice to SeneccaSoarer (get a FI rating) based on your very very limited understanding of the UK aviation market. Which was iressponsible at worst and valueless at best.
Your reappearance here suggests to me that for some reason you really really hate me as WWW and wish to spend your time attacking me. Fair enough. Its your life.
Just don't pretend that you have Wannabes best interest at heart.
Cheers,
WWW
