I started this thread because I thought we had a silent majority of wannabes who felt WWW was doing a good job, especially considering it was voluntary and unpaid. Judging by the number of responses, that has more or less been proved. But there are over 39,000 people registered on PPRuNe, and you're never going to please all of them all of the time.

But the main issue seems to be an opinion among some that moderators should be impartial and always polite. This has never been the case, at least since I've been on around. Read some of Danny's posts! As WWW said, some moderators have a different user-name to express opinions; some don't. And they, like the rest of us, post what they think, sometimes when tired and not thinking clearly, and are sometimes right and sometimes wrong. That is PPRuNe for you. If you don't like it, go elsewhere.

There also seems to be a semi-unstated feeling among some wannabes that the shock of Sept 11th means they should be treated with kid gloves, encouraged, pampered, and protected from what may be the hard reality of the future of aviation. I disagree. Life isn't like that. We want, and NEED, everyone's opinions of the possible future of the industry, whether they're right or wrong, and however painful it may be. If you're going to be a professional pilot, you need to be able to look at possibilities, weigh up facts, and make the best decision in a situation you don't like. You might have to do that at 35,000 feet some day, and hiding from facts or abusing your co-pilot won't help you then. Any of you read "The Naked Pilot"? One of the commonest reactions to a crisis is to pretend it isn't happening, to refuse to face it. It's caused accidents before, and could again. Flying isn't just about learning to manipulate controls; it's about learning to cope with difficult situations. Maybe some wannabes would be better off elsewhere, or waiting till they grow up!

And before anyone says this doesn't affect me, the helicopter industry is quite likely to be flooded with airline pilots with rotary qualifications who go back to helicopter flying - which won't leave much for us rotary wannabes either.

WWW, Scroggs, Hollydog, et. all,

I am willing to put this entire dialogue to rest if you are. The lack of logic and constructive debate is starting to bore me...

My intention was ALWAYS to improve this forum by encouraging a little more sensitivity/objectivity and a little less "holier-than-thou" attitude that really becomes lame after a while. That was my sole intention. I was not the only one to point this out (7-8 other people agreed with me).

Of course all PPruners should be able to voice their own opinions and showcase their distinct personalities - I don't disagree with that - I just think WWW's reply to Senecasoarer was a bit HARSH and I disagreed with that - that's all.

Let's avoid this mess in the future by instilling a little more objectivity from the moderator's standpoint - I think the forum will benefit from that.

WWW - I really don't wish to rehash this, but you still don't get it... By lambasting me again and again you are hurting your own image as a moderator. Do you understand that? How do you know that I am not a professional pilot? I filled out my profile years ago... I currently fly a Citation X - it flies faster, higher, and farther than your 733. Also, I may be training on a GVSP (yes, the new one) or a Global Express soon. I also have two brothers who were flight instructors and who now fly 767s for US majors - should I therefore not have an opinion about instructing? They both have thousands of instructing hours apiece and I heard about it everyday - I still talk to instructors DAILY. I DID care about how you were THRASHING Senecasoarer - so, your belief that I don't care is WRONG - I wouldn't have gotten involved in this illogical mess otherwise. WWW - you either have an anger-management problem or you just lack the ability to constructively debate... Please work on it in the future - provide your own opinions, but temper them (just a little bit) with some objectivity - that's all I want....

Hollydog - thanks for pointing out the typo. I suppose as a future secretary you will be doing a lot of that. Your posts speak for themselves - devoid of substance. Don't waste our time in the future with lame remarks that accomplish nothing but demonstrate your immaturity (hey everyone - now expect to find Hollydog's lame response).

OK - I am now willing to move on. This entire subject should be concluded. I will play by the rules and not continue with this thread. Please, for everyone's sake, instill some OBJECTIVITY from the moderator's perspective.

Thanks to the many who supported my viewpoint. I sincerely wish everyone well and hope that we can all get along - I love PPRune and just want to see it get better in the future.

Cheers

WWW,

You know that I wish to stop this needless banter... What did I say about maturity? However, given that you probably check more frequently than I do (never), I'll take your word for it.

Peace out....

Arhhhh now W. Weasley, that's just the sort of considerate response I would expect from a thoughtful, well balanced, kindly moderator such as your good self.

At the risk of prolonging this thread, I'll add my tuppennyworth.

I have benefited immensely from PPRuNe over the past three years, and that includes the words of WWW and many others.

When I first discovered PPRuNe being a professional pilot was just a mere seed germinating. Through the advice of people here I have picked my way through the maze and I am now a frozen ATPL holder and I've enjoyed every minute!!

Many people have put in a lot of hard work to keep PPRuNe going as it grows and grows. I believe that WWWs attitude and philosophy is hard to knock whether you agree with what he says or not.

By knocking the moderators, you are in fact knocking PPRuNe, so let it rest.

I have met and drank with WWW and a lot of the other moderators, and that's when you form real opinions of people. Just remember that the written word is so easily misinterpreted, don't be so quick to condemn.

And my Grannie is bigger than your Grannie!!
As a rather green wannabe I have benefitted from the advice and guidance on these forums.
The moderators are Airline Pilots who spend their spare time assisting wannabes.Just because they are Pilots doesn`t mean they are perfect.Non of us are,we all have faults.
Perhaps we are all a little short with people sometimes.
.....And if nothing else we have a new game for the Christmas Bash..."Blindfolded formation Butt Kissing of WWW`s left cheek"

Lavdumper, fly citations huh! I think the big clue here is in your profile "From: Beverley Hills 90210" isn't that something out of fiction as well!

Isn't it interesting that when I make an important point about being willing to listen to all points of view and not hiding your head in the sand, and explain why, Lavdumper decides he wants to end the discussion.

Draw your own conclusions.

Whirlybird,

I ended the discussion because I was trying to save WWW from HIMSELF - only he could further tarnish his own reputation. He is doing a better job now. Objectivity is key.

Sensible - I fly out of Los Angeles and I live in that large zip code. If you had been to LA you would know that. You seem to be anything but your title. What piece of schit do you fly? Quit wasting our time with your LAME comments... You are now boring people.

Let's close out this stupid thread and get back to business...

Whirlybird and Sensible----I've been watching this thread from the beginning, and Lavdumper is correct. WWW seems to be a pompus jerk. Your additional comments are lame and waste our time. I am glad I just joined this forum----time to get this party started!!! Hey WWW, caution wake turbulence next time you follow me into Barcelona. You GO Girl!

Yawn Yawn Yawn ,enough of this thread , perhaps if the same 5 people continue to post the same threads encouraging others to post support then the Hits for WWW might reach that historic 100 ! What a feat , that would be a story I shall savour to tell my grandchildren .
As for the poster pointing out spelling/grammar errors in posts , Why? are you now better than a person who makes a typo?!.
Come on ,let bygones be bygones
I appreciate both Lavdumper and WWW's points of view but cencorship should be utilised for profanity not because one person dissagrees with another
Keep the Peace Guys!Long live the Pprune

LAVDUMPER, what is the Victor airway out of LAX at 046 degrees? As a regular at LAX, you'd know that!
