It is puzzling in retrospect that QF got to the threshold of splitting short-haul off from longhaul and then shelved the idea after the huge costs were already spent. If the eventual demise of the airline was the goal it doesn't make sense.
I suspect that QF is copying Virgin's plan...A robust domestic airline with a token international operation and many other routes via code shares. Since there is no fleet plan for international it appears that it might stabilise at thirty or so aeroplanes, half of which will be dual use 330s.
