Head of Acquisition for the Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier Programme

Location

Salary

£90k

ClosingDate

Description

The Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers will be the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy and will represent a step change in capability, enabling the delivery of increased strategic effect and influence around the world.

This is one of the most significant projects ever undertaken within the UK defence sector and will shape its defence capability for the next 25 years. In raw statistics the ships will be 65,000 tonnes at full displacement over three times the size of the current Invincible Class Aircraft Carriers and with embarked squadrons of F35B Lightning II jets will put Britain back into the premier league of maritimefixed wing aviation. The ability to operate a full range of UK helicopters means that we will have enormous versatility. In terms of size and scale they will measure 56m from keel to masthead, which is four metres taller than Niagara Falls. In terms of economic impact £1.6BN worth of sub contracts for work on these ships have now been placed with companies across most regions in the UK

As Head of Acquisition you will lead this flagship programme which will see the introduction of the biggest and most powerful surface warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy. To meet this challenge you will need to be an excellent leader of people, have a track record in dealing with complex, fast moving environments and have a clear focus on delivering projects to time and to budget. Getting this right is clearly vital so strong programme management, stakeholder engagement and an understanding of engineering principles will be critical.
