You must be new. It's almost always that way. Just buy a CatC ticket and waitlist yourself. Then closer to the flight it will be confirmed. No need for a rant just know the system.
New or not, the system is flawed. The whole purpose with Cat C is to get a confirmed seat, not to wait for a waitlist that might get through. With only one ALT and impossible to get all leave in one go you need to be able to get confirmed seats in advance.
