In the last year or two, Cityjet whose primary strength has been their London City business-centric base have reduced London City, dropping routes like London-Dundee and London-Edinburgh. Flybe have opened a quasi-base at London City, with new routes like London-Edinburgh
Flybe who are dominant in flying people from UK regional airports on routes that don't touch London have substantially dropped Cardiff, closing routes like Cardiff-Edinburgh and Cardiff-Glasgow. Cityjet have opened a Cardiff base, flying routes like Cardiff-Edinburgh and Cardiff-Glasgow.
Both Flybe and Cityjet fly a mix of props and regional jets, averaging around 70-80 seats
Seems like 2 airlines, both of which have reduced operations at their primary cities, and gone into markets where they are partly unknowns, swapping a strong market share for a weaker one.
Seems at least part of this game of musical chairs is going to end in tears.
