About five years ago I operated a freighter from JFK to Chicago and then had to pax back to JFK, in uniform, on UA.
The aircraft was a B757 with 14 first class seats and my company had paid full fare, about US$975. I was sat in the last row next to the window. The choice was chicken or beef, when they arrived at me the very 'senior' FA leaned over and said, "And you, sir, will have the beef", no said I, on a rather strict diet at the time, I would like the chicken please. "Sorry we don't have any more".
I declined the beef and settled for a coffee. I mentioned to my seat neighbour, who had expressed dismay at the lack of meal choice, that given that the cabin on that day, being full, had grossed over US$13,000, one would have thought they might have managed to find a chicken meal somewhere, from EY, for example. My seat neighbour then went to the loo and when he returned said that he had heard the cabin crew contemplating whether to report me or not!!! Some first class service UA offered!
