It's definately worth checking out Welshpool Airport.
It's probably the closest to you and its a great little place, very friendly.
They have a tidy looking fleet of tomahawks and a warrior as well as a General Avia F22A.
It's A/G radio and there are several other small airfields within 30 mins, If you want to be more adventurous Manchester CTA is not that far away.
