British Midland was always summer only, weekend only. I don't think the route could sustain a daily operation but perhaps 3 or 4 times a week?
Or maybe davidjohnson6 is right and there simply isn't room for a Luton service anymore given the extent of operations from other airports though I still think it could be made to work.
