You're at an airport, the people there have been heavily security vetted, the pat down is happening in a public area (unless you request differently) and there are CCTV cameras everywhere.
Is this the same vetting applied to the TSA agents caught selling hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen gear on ebay?
What always amuses me when I'm 'randomly selected' for more checks is that I've been through far more serious vetting by Western governments than the people who want to search me. If I'm up to no good, a lot of people are going to look really bad for passing me.
