If you need to secure something as valuable as credit-card details from possible outside interferance, you should consider something like Password Safe. Windows "password protection" is not really worthy of the name and is trivial to break.

Originally designed for securing a plethora of account passwords, it is perfectly suitable for storing credit-card or other valuable data. It's available from Counterpane, http://www.counterpane.com/ps171.zip
