either of these .. was Corradino D'Ascanio's co-axial D'AT3 helicopter which flew in October 1930 at Rome's Ciampino Airport in the presence of representatives from France's Fédération Aéronautique Internationale but .. there are popular concepts of helicopter history which have made the world's first helicopter the Sikorsky VS-300.
I suppose at the end of the day it depends on which definition of 'helicopter' one employs. That the R4 was the first popularly produced helicopter .. this one cannot deny and that the first helicopter flew in Italy is similarly irrefutable (for some)!
