Name of SF symbol on Wessex

I have seen painted this SF symbol (looks like some sort of dagger) on a few Helicopters (and I think on the Jolly Roger flag on the Sub that came back from the Falklands) to designate a landing of SF troops. I have two questions.

1. What is the name of it, if any ?
2. Does anyone know the history of it and when it was first used.

Thanks
