A general tip for all is to seek insurance indirectly, ie if buying a financial product or a membership to an organisation.

For instance in Oz, a no medical questions asked $800k worldwide, no exclusions life and $800k critical illness/disability cover is available at standard rates when opening a superannuation (pension savings) account. (Cover above $800k needs a medical report).

In the USA and other countries insurance is available through pilots associations.

Whilst the hazards of the job are higher than most, one of the reasons some occupations like helicopter pilots are expensive to insure for a critical illness that results in loss of job is that there is low threshold of severity of injury that can make pilots unemployable. Commercial pilots need most of their body and mind in working order.

So you could consider cover for a high level of disability that makes you unable to do any job, this is far less likely an occurrence and so the premium is lower.
