Help - Life/critical illness insurance

I just noticed that my life insurance expires next month, so I have been trying to get quotes. I have been turned down point blank for critical illness insurance (because I travel a lot in the EU!), and my life insurance premium would be loaded by about 50% because of my super-dangerous job:...... simulator instructor!!!!
Has anybody got any suggestions? Surely there is a sensible quote out there somewhere?

Thanks!

Plod

Critical illness insurance is a pretty poor product - it limits any payouts to specific illnesses, and IMHO even patients with say, cancer, often find their cancer doesnt qualify. Permanent health insurance, which pays out simply if you cannot work due to any illness, is a better product.

I am sorry this isnt answering your question, as it doesnt give you a specific source. ill PM you with the company that insures me

High 'R' how the hell are you?
You aren't valuable enough to warrant insurance are you?
I agree with homonculus (as ever!), he's the doc so he will defo know you are wasting your time with CII.
Have you tried Haywards - remember them?

You'll probably have to go to Lloyds direct (of london) for a bespoke quote if you are finding difficulties.
But there are brokers out there who love this sort of work and many do actually work hard to get you a decent quote.
G**gle: specialist insurance brokers/companies.

PS: Why haven't Rotorsim given you some cover in their contract? Duffers.....

Andiamo......

Help - Life/critical illness insurance

Hi,
Had same problems with a liferiskinsurance in Germany - until I found "Hannoversche Leben", they just don't care that I'm a professional helicopter driver…

The other insurance you might look at is Albatros, which originated from Lufthansa, - I've got my loss of licence from them

Thanks for the ideas. TC - its one of the hazards of going self-employed - none of this is thrown in!. Have you got an insurance for when the SAR fleet gets junked?

A general tip for all is to seek insurance indirectly, ie if buying a financial product or a membership to an organisation.

For instance in Oz, a no medical questions asked $800k worldwide, no exclusions life and $800k critical illness/disability cover is available at standard rates when opening a superannuation (pension savings) account. (Cover above $800k needs a medical report).

In the USA and other countries insurance is available through pilots associations.

Whilst the hazards of the job are higher than most, one of the reasons some occupations like helicopter pilots are expensive to insure for a critical illness that results in loss of job is that there is low threshold of severity of injury that can make pilots unemployable. Commercial pilots need most of their body and mind in working order.

So you could consider cover for a high level of disability that makes you unable to do any job, this is far less likely an occurrence and so the premium is lower.
