There has been a fundamental misunderstanding throughout the internet about BA and its fleet replacement plans. Anyone who thinks that an order for an extra 18 787s is anything to do with 747 replacement needs to realise that large corporations (such as BA and Boeing) don't always give out the full story.
Why don't we wait to see what is announced at the forthcoming Paris Airshow?
Bear in mind 2 points - the Airbus demo A380 will be the BA aircraft recently unveiled and Willie Walsh's comments about the A350 - widely available via a Google search.
The maximum number of 747 aircraft stood down over the initial A380 delivery process will be 2 - leaving a "scant" 50 airframes to soldier on...
