We had that very problem ferrying a 560 to the USA just before Christmas! Recent transfer to N reg and no RVSM approvals through!
The aircraft was RVSM bar paperwork and we could have gone iceland direct Goose had we elected to fly at 42k.
Nevertheless we elected to fly at 28K and take the extra fuel burns and stops!
