You are quite correct re medical, however the temporary airmans cert he mentions in original post would be the 61.75, think the op meant he was after a 61.75 and not sure how to get his medical status clear to enable that process. Anyway, I just edited my post above to mention pros and cons of student cert vs 61.75 as he will need one or the other but not both.
