Here is what my notes on Busia Airstrip say (how about that for a limousine aircraft of the 1960s? ..):
Do not overfly Uganda. "Buzz" for people (sometime … hundreds!), bicycles (hundreds?) and animals (sometime attached to a pole for grazing … in which case your buzz won't be effective!). Call Police station (03362) 2101 or 2110 give your ETA and ask them to clear the strip (but they probably won't bother anyway). Large & uncontrolled crowds, bicycles, and livestock all excited by aircraft (repetitive clearing overshoots tend to make matter worse). No windsock (check for smoke around, but it's usually variable in direction in the surrounding area). Low houses and bush before Thr 31. Tall gum trees near Thr Rwy 13 (usually land Rwy 31 & T/O Rwy 13 unless light & STOL aircraft). Possible longitudinal washaways first 200m Rwy 31. Airstrip maintenance is absolutely nil and condition of runway can at times deteriorate to a real "messy" state (bushes and anthills!). 2002: 6 foot high termite hill right on edge (right side Rwy 31) of strip (which is now a meandering bicycle track) Get prior brieffing and inspect carefuly! Airstrip graded in January 2003.
