Think if every fault and diversion of every type was reported publically there might be a different impression of various types !
Well on that point the level of media exposure these days is much higher than what it used to be, imagine the 737 rudder issues, or the DC-10 cargo doors happening today in the world of BookFace and Twotter.... then it'd be the "I'm never getting on a Boeing/DC-10 again!" all over the papers. So I do suspect what you say about the different types looking a lot different (worse) when compared on an even playing field would be correct. It's as a pax was saying the other day that "Qantas is very unsafe"- to be honest I don't think so, they just now have some idiot pax ready to tweet photos from the scene as it happens. I much prefer to put my family on an airline that is upfront when the sh!t hits the fan than one that tries to brush it under the carpet, so to speak....
