Think you need to pursue the ATPL if you are wanting to join an airline.

I just had a PPL with the required hours to start the ATPL writtens the "modular way".

Once I had the exams I blasted off to the states to get the JAA CPL and more hour building before coming back to the UK to begin the IR.

If you have the written exams out of the way first, you can concentrate and enjoy the flying.
