The airlines in India do normally hire low timers . But with 5/6 airlines running in losses growth has pretty much come to a stand still ( except IndiGo which is profitable and still growing but has an oversupply of pilots for the next 1-2 years ) leading to job losses at certain airlines and delayed salaries .
Not to mention the 300 experienced Kingfisher Pilots on the street also looking for jobs .
Add to the fact that there another 7000+ low time pilots also looking for jobs
Majority of the charter companies require you to pay for the rating and work for crap pay . One Citation operator was offering a pay of 300$ a month if they paid for the type rating . They know that supply is much greater than demand and hence take advantage of the situation .
Another one wanted 10,000$ for the cost of training as an FO on the Cessna Caravan . Pay offered was 1000$ a month .
The Indian DGCA requires each and every aircraft to specifically endorsed on the license irrespective of weight or type of engine .
Which means If I am qualified to fly a C172 I wont be qualified to fly the C152 unless I clear a written exam on type and undergo 10 hours on the actual aircraf type ( for aircraft below 5700KG / 12,500 pounds )
A few candidates have decided to self sponsor their type ratings without a job offer . While few made good the rating and found jobs . Majority dont have a job .
This has also resulted in certain airlines hiring
only type rated candidates which screwed up the opportunity for the rest that dont have the money to risk a type rating without a job at end of the line
This also means certain airlines hire a 200 or 250 TT type rated zero time on type pilots rather than from a pool of experienced pilots from a certain airline ( that operates a different type ) have not been paid for 6 months and have been looking for jobs elsewhere .
Couple of new startups on the horizon ( if they actually start operations ) but not enough to absorb the even half the above number for a long time to come .
