Atlas Air Worldwide Wins Air Force One Training Contract
Press Release: Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. – Tue, Sep 4, 2012 12:01 PM EDT PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. (AAWW), a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, today announced that its Atlas Air, Inc. unit has won a U.S. Air Force contract to train the aircrews of Air Force One.
Under the five-year, fixed-price contract, crews for the Air Force One, a modified version of the Boeing 747-200, will receive ground and flight-simulator training at Atlas Air’s world-class training center in Miami, Fla. Atlas Air has held the contract and has been providing this service to the Air Force since October 2007.
“We are extremely honored to have been selected to provide training for the pilots and crews of Air Force One and the Presidential Airlift Group. The Air Force’s exacting demands for professionalism, efficiency and security make this contract award even more meaningful,” said William J. Flynn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Air Worldwide.
He continued, “Atlas Air’s experience operating the world’s largest fleet of Boeing 747 Freighters to over 90 countries allows us to provide up-to-date training for these highly experienced crews. Our own Atlas pilots, who receive the same training at our Miami training center, support the Department of Defense’s Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF) cargo and passenger requirements.”
Air Force One crews provide air transport for the President of the United States. “Air Force One,” the designated call sign when the president is on board, consists of two specially configured Boeing 747-200B aircraft.
