Helen isn’t the only one - at long, long last, I’ve finally done it!
Spent yesterday morning freezing my bits off, defrosting a 152. Looking up at the sky thinking “it’s blue up there – if only I could see more than a couple of miles along the ground”.
Briefed the examiner that we’d go and have a look, and if I couldn’t see the QE2 bridge from Brentwood, I’d leave the nav section and just do the handling & circuits. Lo and behold, it was visible, so stopwatch in hand I trundled around Kent for an hour, diverted back to Essex, did some stalls, PFLs etc, then back to the circuit.
Stumbled around the circuit for a while (mental note: low winter sun, mist and runway 22 are not an ideal combination
) then landed and looked across at a clipboard full of ticks.
What a fantastic feeling – now it gets really expensive!
