Cool You wait months for a skills test, then 2 come along ...

Helen isn’t the only one - at long, long last, I’ve finally done it!

Spent yesterday morning freezing my bits off, defrosting a 152. Looking up at the sky thinking “it’s blue up there – if only I could see more than a couple of miles along the ground”.

Briefed the examiner that we’d go and have a look, and if I couldn’t see the QE2 bridge from Brentwood, I’d leave the nav section and just do the handling & circuits. Lo and behold, it was visible, so stopwatch in hand I trundled around Kent for an hour, diverted back to Essex, did some stalls, PFLs etc, then back to the circuit.

Stumbled around the circuit for a while (mental note: low winter sun, mist and runway 22 are not an ideal combination ) then landed and looked across at a clipboard full of ticks.

What a fantastic feeling – now it gets really expensive!

Now it gets really expensive
Rubbish - it gets cheaper now! No need to pay for an instructor. You can find a share in something cheap to fly if you want (I now pay about 1/4 of the hourly cost that I used to when I was learning). No reason at all it should get expensive.

Congratulations! You had a beautiful day for it. Was beautiful all weekend. Unfortunately, I spent most of the weekend fixing my car... and until I'd fixed the car, I couldn't get to the airfield, so I missed my chance. But never mind - you passed, and that's the important thing!

Cheers Foo Foo!

I was thinking more of ATPLs, £700 exam sessions, IMCs, CPLs, IRs, FI ratings, type ratings, that sort of thing.

Thumbs up Congratulations!

I suppose I'll have to buy you a beer next time I see you in the clubhouse.

Well done - I didn't think you'd get it up when I saw you first thing - it was 'well misty' in the circuit. Of course, by the time I was down it was clearing nicely

Well done SXTY!! Everybody seems to be 'at it' at the moment, don't they? It'll be spring soon (honest!) and I suppose being able to fly until 20:00 could make things expensive. Good luck with the commercial and FI stuff too!

Excellent news! Better send the mrs out to find a better paying job. It may well get more expensive in the short term, but in the long term they will be paying you to fly.
