Sri Lankan Airlines Lost USD 40 Million
Meanwhile, the country’s troubled national carrier SriLankan is said to have suffered a massive loss due to its engineering division trying to cut corners to save money. Sources said a large number of students of aviation schools, that it has taken in as trainees to overcome its skilled manpower shortage, had caused significant damage to its Airbus A-340 known aircraft known by its calling name 4R Alpha Delta Bravo inside one of its hangars.
They said that the aircraft had become a write off after its tail had been dropped on the ground during servicing recently. The mishap had happened when there were only two qualified technicians on the job where as there should have been six. The loss is said to be in the region of US$ 40 million.
The Island learns that the insurance had refused to bear the loss as it was due to sheer negligence.
Head of SriLankan Engineering Priyantha Rose too could not be contacted for comment despite repeated attempts.
