Was once cleared direct to final approach fix of a major international airport 160 miles away, descent at pilot discretion,cleared for the approach and when established was cleared to contact the tower!
I fail to see the problem. I've seen better. Direct the IAF from ~500nm out. Also seen direct the airport ~800nm out. What's the problem?
