VIRGIN Atlantic is bidding to enter the short haul market, boss Sir Richard Branson revealed yesterday.
He wants to compete with arch-rival British Airways on the Heathrow to Edinburgh and Aberdeen routes.
And he wants to take over Heathrow slots to Nice, Moscow, Cairo and Riyadh.
The tycoon is applying to take over services from bmi following its controversial takeover by British Airways earlier this year.
Brussels is forcing BA to give up the slots to prevent the creation of monopolies on the routes.
Sir Richard believes the routes will act as feeders to his core
business – lucrative long haul routes to 32 destinations including Sydney, Shanghai, San Francisco and Tokyo.
