Domonican,
What you write is pure BS.
Expat 'allowances' are very much in place. Although they aren't hiring at present nor are expected to do so very soon.
A scoot captain makes about $ 22-23k depending on his flying. So does an SIA local captain. Although sectors are longer therefore more rest. Some allowances too are better An expat makes about $ 5k more than local. But don't be fooled by that. Cause he will use up all of that to pay for rental/mortgage for his home and his kids education.
A half litre can of great lager costs inside of $ 5. Where in god's name have you got your numbers my good man.
Automobiles are expensive. A BMW 5 series would put you down 200k. But that's the government plan. Reduce cars on the road. And therefore pollution. Any why on earth would you need a car in this island city with such a strong public transport infrastructure. Like taking sand to the desert.
A 3 bedder in a decent neighbourhood can be anything from 3.5k to 4.5k PM.
And yes. Only SIA cargo hiring of late. That too in spurts. Will close soon.
Scoot is ok for now with their pilot numbers.
And the so called wage 'hike' is true. These are the old numbers. The new CA has been signed. So effective 1st Jan the new hourly allowance kicks in.
But as someone rightly pointed out, this is an airline that ALSO hires expats. But ideally would love to do without them, if it could.
But wouldn't you do the same at YOUR workplace. Expats are a stop gap (albiet continous) process.
That point alone can make it a very very difficult decision to make. For all the roses and trimmings, it can sometimes be quite hostile.
Something you would like to think about.
Very seriously...
