Wagstaff...

You say the AAC supports the Army? They can't even find the pilots to fly the Apache.

Who do you think the biggest user of the RAF Support Helicopter force is? I'll tell you, the Army. How can we not be 'closely linked' when there is a Joint Helicopter Command which exists to integrate our command and control to make us all more efficient.

Who do you think did all the flying in Afghanistan due to having more capable kit?.... the RAF.
Who is operating all the time off the carriers and working ever more closely with the FAA?.....the RAF!

It wouldn't be 'pointless', because 1 organisation would be able to pool all it's expertise and take the best elements from all the ASW, ASU, SH, CAS and SEAD experts that exist out there.
Take these assets, put them in 1 common uniform, give them 1 unified command structure as opposed to this attempt at 'jointery' that exists today, leave the army/navy absolutely everything except it's aircraft and airbases .....and it would be much more efficient.

FUNKY MUNKY: Obviously not too funky are you? Using terms like Royal Army Flying Corps, you're not too interested in military flying.
