Well, actually there isn't as EK wants it's pilots spending money in Dubai - hence why they have signed a contract for 500 villas next to the Meydan racecourse. It's not exactly on the beach-front but it IS in Dubai, only 15 minutes from the airport and certainly less hassle than trying to negotiate Emirates Road through Sharjah at rush hour in your own car.
*Let's not forget that EK don't provide transport if you live outside Dubai's boundary*.
Some pilots may be happy to live on the edge of Ras Al Khaimah (much more laid back of course) but it's best not to mislead new joiners without the full facts.
