Ironbutt,

The facilites in EMA can hardly be described as "just built"; it's been there for a couple of years now. DHL Air occupies some offices in the building, but the majority of the site is used for handling freight. When the facilites was built, DHL Air was still far from becoming reality. All maintenance on DHL Air 757s are already done by EAT in BRU.

I too have heard rumours of merging DHL Air into EAT, and from my point of view it makes sense. Why have double administration and the associated costs? Why have 2 757 chief pilots, 2 Ops Directors, 2 Crew Scheduling departments, 2 Finance departments etc etc etc? I belive DHL Air was set-up to provide a UK based carrier, and even if merged it should not imply that DHL Air crew would have to relocate to BRU. EMA is the second biggest DHL Hub in Europe, and with the limited space available in BRU it would make sense to have a second crew base. Perhaps EAT would have a small affiliate office there, who knows.

But all this is rumours, the only thing we know is that the next 757 to be delivered will be in the new yellow/red livery. Thankfully we mainly fly at night, so the visual impact will be eased somehow

The latest, and I must hasten to add so far unconfirmed, rumour is that DHL Aviation will be integrated into DHL Worldwide Express, or DHL Express as it will be called in the new year. As with the merger of DHL Air and EAT, the goal seems to be cost reduction by eliminating double administration. Again, makes kind of sense. Good thing is that DPWN knows next to nothing about aviation, so hopefully they'll let us keep on doing what we do without too much interference.
