The best I can say is...
fly the approach in your head before you takeoff. It works for me!
I once announced to a FISO that I was crosswind when I was not

. I was actually flying overhead before decending dead side...I got slighty confused and it was enough to ensure that I now mentally fly the approach and circuit before leaving the ground. Have an aerodrome plate with you too.
P.S. I believe that someone landed on the emergency runway at LGW once too...after an ILS approach!
