I was watching Airbase on ITV last night which is all about RAF AWACS.
The captain of one of the E-3's commented that the E-3 has no countermeasures?
Surely, considering its importance the aircraft should be protected to the max? E.g Decoys. Flares, Chaff etc.
Then I thought isn't the E-3 an ideal platform for a BVR operations. It has a very long range radar, therefore why not strap a couple of long range missiles under its wings?
I know it would be stupid to replace fighters with E-3's for many reasons, and I'm not suggesting that they should. I hope to join the RAF after uni, so I wouldn't want to see that happen. But wouldn't it be a good idea?
