It is a shame there are so many ignorant people on this forum.
I lived in Beijing for over three years and enjoyed it immensly.
Of course the worst stories about China are highlighted in the western media but having lived there and seen a lot for myself I can only say that you shouldn't believe everything you read about the PRC.
A lot of the time we look like complete hypocrites to them. We preach the morales of western society and the basic freedoms of man whilst at the same time breaching them ourselves on a daily basis. Of course they have their social issues but remember they have more or less been catapulted from the medieval period to the 20th-21st century in the space of 30 years or so and course nothing can run completely smoothly.
I've got plenty more MrClaus but first my advice to you would be to visit the country first before passing judgement.
