Well, that's a lie. Notice how they use the word 'may'. Its actually the opposite. The Chinese government is not only making expats pay tax, but they now want them to pay social security as well. This is a serious problem for companies in China that employ expats and has not been resolved. The catch 22 is that you have to be a resident of China to take advantage of the social security and the only way for a foreigner to be a resident is to have a work visa. If you are working, you can't take advantage of the social security. So you are paying money into a fund that you will never be able to access.

This is a recent issue and is part of a general trend by the Chinese government to make it harder to hire foreigners. Don't take my word for it, go ask someone who does business in China. Pilots are not exempt either, this applies to all foreign workers.

I wonder what other little lies are lurking in the contract?
