That wasn't my point. My concern was that if PIK goes to the wall, it leaves BAA with a monopoly in the central belt - even if only a temporary one. Glasgow as a city should be better off with two competing airports - imho. The population / market is big enough for both of them - but GLA is obviously preferable to airlines and most pax alike.
I don't think DND is relevant to the mix - if by North Edinburgh you mean Leith, then there is no way anyone from there would use DND. DND is constricted by its short runway and city centre location - so I can see there being a choice say for someone living in Perth or St Andrews, but EDI & GLA are the main players for Stirling & south.
I totally agree that FR @ GLA would be in BAAs interest - but no FR @ PIK would reduce competition. Having said that, my understanding is that MOL still pays next to nothing to use PIK - so if he can't make money with that deal, the prospects really are bleak.
