Re BHX A380 compliant

Think there needs to be a reality check here.It was great to see the EK A380 in BHX Sept 2009, however that was a special event, where other planes were put in the hold and others had departures retimed to facilitate..why?

The taxiways are too narrow in places leading to the visiting A380 to travel at snails pace, and the pilots need special awards foe squeezing a turn in onto the runway.

Then traffic was held after it landed,as the runway isn't wide enough to accommadate the engines over it.So they had to close the runway do a vehicle inspection along its entire length, in case debris had been blown onto it (another AF Concorde type incident god forbid).

Then after take off the runway closed again for another inspection.

Therefore BHX is a long way from being operationally ready to accept a 380 daily without causing a lot of disruption to other airlines..

Less of a problem but Catering companies will need to order 2nd deck loaders and A380 tug as BHX doesn't have any, and had to borrow both for the 2009 visit and a 380 tow bar.. Reality check over !
