When the A380 was on the drawing board, I remember former MD Brian Summers stating emphatically that he didn't envisage an aircraft of that size visiting BHX regularly. Perhaps a sad illustration of the lack of ambition of those times that handicaps the place today.
I was in a meeting at which he stated categorically that "Low Cost airlines would not be welcome at BHX". He and the board were adamant that the BHX business plan did not include them.
Of course this was in the days when BA were pulling a lot of strings. Well they certainly delivered long term benefits!??
Not that BHX didn't make hay while the sun shone.
