It does seem to be SOP in a large number of airlines who have no legal problem with it.
Think you will find that only a very small number of airlines use that SOP, BA (your employer I suspect) are the only ones in the UK that I know of although perhaps there are some others. The vast majority of the worlds airlines follow the manufactures (Boeing and Airbus) recommendation that the Captain make the decision and carry out the stop actions.
