Check your antivirus / firewall program(s). Mine (Computer Associates) defaults to clearing out all cookies once you leave the site which negotiates them - ie the next time you go to that site you have to start all over again

I turned this 'feature' <off>, and the logon details for this site and others were then retained as they should be.
