Well i think the issue that people take with this situation is that it was against company policy to hire a non rated pilot without first offering the position company wide. So there are pilots who have been stuck on the 320 for instance who should have had priority for that position. But instead policy was not followed and a special favor was granted. It just feeds the mistrust of management when they say one thing and do something completely different.

I don't think it's self pity. It sounds like a legitimate complaint. This would never happen at a carrier with a union or an airline with a real contract. Obviously there are no unions in the middle east but you can't fault pilots for expecting the written policies to be followed. Go look up career progression in your skybook and see what the company says.
