Bozzo, The English language has many roots, as you correctly point out. I was referring to those roots of Latin origin.
I did not imply that English is derived solely from Latin.
There are certainly Germanic roots, Spanish roots and definitely French roots
The early colonisation of England involved many cultures,
the Romans had started to colonise England in about 50 BC and remained until about 500 AD.
There is a possibility that some 500 years of Roman colonisation may have flavoured the language.
The Angles and Saxons moved in after the Romans packed up.
Regardless, I was a little surprised that a farewell post had a perplexing question regarding "Vale".
