No, indeed, I still use a Nikon D50, which until recently I'd thought was pretty medium. On purchasing a 24" 1920 x 1080 monitor, I was stunned at what it could do.
Thanks to the stalwarts for the info, it was technically a better review than the one I read. It does look like there's hope of getting it under control and in a sub link I found a promise of an upgrade to 2.1 firmware for all US phones. They didn't know if it would require a wipe.
The inability to shed apps seems a bit high-handed to say the least. I wonder if re-wiping would clean out the unwanted items. It will remain to be seen how long that process takes.
I found the radio quite good. I'd concluded that the wires were the antenna last night, while bending over to inspect an ant hill, the sound broke up somewhat. Very nice scan and stored frequency list.
(It's easy to see how they can get so much in a phone, when an ant can work out that taking his lump of earth to the top of a ridge and heaving it over the edge, was better than letting it rolling back down their hole. So much logic in that little noggin. I can't think why I didn't take a photo of it.

It was reassuring to find that I could charge it from a USB port, though the lead is different to my camera lead, so forgetting that on one's travels could mean a no-go phone.
I'll make an update when I've found time (for time, read a calm moment) for more fiddling.
