Commenting on the court appearance of a BA employee alleged to be involved in a terror plot, and who had volunteered to work as cabin crew in the event of any strike, Len McCluskey, assistant general secretary said: "Today's charges illustrate absolutely the serious dangers of recruiting a strike-breaking crew to defeat a workforce. BA's responsibility to all passengers is to put every effort into securing a negotiated settlement, not risk safety with fast-tracked strikebreakers

"This only serves to underline the concerns we've raised with BA regarding health, safety and security issues throughtout this dispute."
Trying to suggest that volunteers are inherently more of a security risk is beneath contempt. As ALL aiside workers go through the same security checks irrespective of whether they are G4S, BA, VS or BA volunteers. So IF Mr McCluckwit is suggesting that somehow UNITE members enhance the onboard security he is sadly deluded. Worse still he is attempting to make cheap political capital in a very serious arena. It displays not only how weak the UNITE position has become that now no stunt is beneath them, but also what a short sighted man he is. Is he so certain that the police have never charged a BASSA member with a criminal act that has lead to them losing their airside pass?
