tnthey I suggest it may have been that the checkin staff were
too busy to go and ask for you. I've not heard of a new policy with regards requests to the Captain for the jump seat. Next time take your QF ID and see the Captain yourself, I doubt you will get a knock back.
By the way I had an engineer on the flight deck the other day and it was good to exchange information.
